Note 1

Students will select 16 credits or more from practicum, laboratory and thesis research offered by their respective Division as their major subjects.
Note 2 Students will select 6 credits or more from all subjects offered by the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
#1 Compendium of Rehabilitation Sciences will be offered as part of the cutting edge topics in biomedical sciences including the general subjects.
It is preferable that students of the Unit of Rehabilitation Sciences take the Compendium of Rehabilitation Sciences among the general subjects.

On subjects offered by the Divisions of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

At the Unit of Rehabilitation Sciences, each department offers laboratory sessions I, II, III, IV, practicum sessions I, II, and thesis research I, II. The aims of each session are as follows; Laboratory I:
Selection of a research theme, Laboratory II: Drafting a research plan, Laboratory III & IV: Understanding research methodologies, Practicum I & II: Acquiring the techniques of research methodologies and conducing pilots, thesis research I & II: Conducting research, writing up the thesis and submission.
Graduation Criteria

Graduation requirements shall be for the students to be enrolled at the Ph.D course for four years or longer, and acquire 30 credits or more, and upon receiving appropriate supervision, pass the final examination and successfully defend their final thesis.  However, in a case whereby the faculty council recognizes excellence in the student’s academic achievement, the required duration of study may be shortened to three years or longer (application of a special provision regarding the duration of study, as stated in the regulations of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences)

Criteria for applying for special provision regarding duration of study

The special provision regarding the duration of study may be applied to those students, who are the first author of their paper (including papers which are already accepted), and further meet the following conditions:

  1. Students are recommended by their main supervisor
  2. Students have acquired, or are expected to acquire the necessary units
  3. Students who fulfill any one of the following conditions
    1. Students have published two or more papers, and the total score of IF of the journal is 7.0 or more, as reported in the latest JCR, OR
    2. Students have published one paper and the total score of IF of the journal is 5.0 or more, as reported in the latest JCR, OR
    3. Students other than those who fulfill the conditions stated in 1) and 2), and who have completed the Masters course in Health Sciences and enrolled in the Unit of Rehabilitation Sciences, written their academic dissertation in the thesis format, and have two or more papers on the theme of their dissertation either published or accepted in a peer-reviewed academic journal.
