What is nursing?
The word nursing comes from a Latin word, “to nourish”.  Nursing therefore implies “watching for, protecting, and nurturing” all that is necessary for the person to live.  The practice of nursing exists for the people, and is deeply involved with every aspects of people’s lifestyle.  Nursing not only provides care and treatment for diseases and disabilities, but through interacting with the patients, assist them and their families to achieve higher quality of life (QOL).  Nursing is therefore about cultivating self-reliance so that people may lead meaningful and productive life.
What do you learn?
Nursing is structured around the four concepts of “humanity”, “environment”, “health” and “nursing”.  You will be learning the theories and skills of nursing and interpersonal skills – which are vital in communicating with not only patients and families but also other medical/health professionals including team approaches, as well as acquiring a wide range of knowledge and skills based on medicine, philosophy, psychology, sociology and other social sciences to prepare yourself to take on the role as a medical professional.
