Outline
Rehabilitation science is primarily concerned with “disability” – however, today, with rapidly aging population and advances in medical technology, the definition of “disability” has become far more complex and multifaceted than it was before.  On the other hand, theoretical framework to identify and analyze such disabilities scientifically has not yet caught up with the real social needs.  It was against such background that the Unit of Rehabilitation Sciences was established.  By maximizing the curriculum, field, and rich human resources we have developed at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, we seek to offer systematic learning of rehabilitation sciences and foster professionals who can contribute to improving and sustaining high-quality of rehabilitation services.  The degree to be awarded will be a Ph.D.
Characteristics of the Unit
1. Curriculum specializing on disability
2. Four-year teaching and research, utilizing the latest medical technology and fieldwork
3. Multidisciplinary teaching, with collaboration with other units of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, university hospitals and other regional and international fields.
